I've been working with personal trainers on-and-off for many years and have generally seen decent results. Eventually I hit a plateau in my workout progress: I was bored, unmotivated and frustrated that I couldn't get stronger or bigger.
During a summer in Los Angeles recently, Josh Squyres not only pushed me past that plateau; he somehow managed to improve my personal perception of how fit I can be.
Josh developed an intense but realistic weight training program for me and provided the best personal training I've experienced. He is educated and knowledgeable about health and fitness but also an experienced professional who knows when to push and when to back off. To be honest, the training program wasn't all that novel. Rather, what was new to me was Josh's commitment to my success. He tracked the program carefully (we even took weekly body measurements) and adjusted exercises, reps and sets as necessary -- all while encouraging me to push further than my mind wanted to go. He assured me that we were making measurable progress from week to week and made me notice that progress along the way. Not surprisingly, when you insist on progress, you start to see results. And those results breed excitement and more results.
After just eight weeks training with Josh, I was in the best shape of my life -- and felt better about my appearance than I ever have: I gained nearly 10 pounds of muscle and increased my maximum lifts in the major exercises in our program by 40 to 50%. I'm a hardgainer, and those results were a revelation to me.
I recommend Josh without reservation, whatever your fitness goals are.
